Sara Burgess

ANILA QUAYYUM AGHA

Crossing Boundaries

After looking at the work of Sara Burgess, I found this artist, who uses lazercut patterns on wood and a light bulb to create these wonderful, lace-like patterns on the walls surrounding her work. I think that this is really beautiful, and I love the way that the work extends out to fill its environment, projecting into space. I like the handmade element of Burgess's work better, however I think that the way in which this piece uses light and shadow to create an immersive environment is really beautiful. I also like that when a viewer is within the room their shadow changes the shape of the patterns in the walls, and therefore the viewers change the piece in a small, temporary way.
